A Must for Tolkien Lovers - ★★★★★
by - Version 1.2 - 31 January 2011
This is a brilliantly designed and executed app and definately one to have at your side as you are exploring the early history of Tolkien's legendarium especially The Silmarillion and The History of Middle Earth. The connection to some of the best online guides to Tolkien's world makes it an excellent research tool or just a fun way to visualize the incredibly ritch landscape of Tolkien's Arda. look forward to next versions covering the second and third ages of Middle Earth. Well done!!

The Middle-earth Map starts with the World of Arda at appx. 10% of its 100 in. x 100 in. size and allows the user to “Zoom In” and "Scroll" around the "Map View".

Selecting “More” brings up the apps’ other features such as Places (categories), My Favorite Places, Places “A” to “Z”, Tolkien Gateway, Notes, Websites and Information.

When selecting a "place" from the A to Z list, the category list or from a result of a key word search... a map snapshot with a short description are presented on a “Detail Panel”. Also on the panel are the “Favorities” and “Go There” buttons. Tapping the “Check” will add it as a “Favorite Place” or the “X” will delete it. Tapping "Go There" automatically finds your selection on the Map View... where you can then zoom & scroll as much as you like to “see the surroundings” or follow a specific journey with ease.

Tap "More" again and the app remembers where you are in the map and suggests extra "Details" for references. Web pages from the Tolkien Gateway (Wiki) have extensive links for further (associated) research.

TheOneRing.net is where you can find the latest Tolkien fan news and discussion forums. This site also features the latest "Movie" news.

www.middle-earthmap-iphone.com is a gateway to Tolkien links and other external web sites.

The "Information" items provide a map legend, bibliography, app news, app help, etc.
